IRS contribution limits

While your Plan allows you to contribute a certain portion of your pay, the IRS sets the maximum you can contribute each calendar year. The befoe-tax and/or Roth contribution limit for 2016 is $18,000. If you are age 50 or older, you can contribute an additional $6,000, for a total of $24,000 in 2016.
